The Future of Timelapse

Over the last few years timelapses have become extremely popular as they show a different perspective on the movement of life and allow people to experience progress in a short period of time. Everyday people are continuously pushing the limits of timelapses and coming out with some incredible results. Below are a few timelapses that are just outstanding and show what the future of this medium has to offer. Airborne

New Zealand extreme sports legend Chuck Berry has been working on building a high altitude microlight in his garage for the last three years. He’s finally brought his dream to reality and finished the plane with amazing results. The team at Red Bull have been working hard on making a documentary of his journey in bringing the craft to life. Below is an excerpt from the the doco. It was really nice to see that some of my shots made it into the cut (the shots of Chuck building the microlight in his garage).

The Pant

The magical garden known as ‘The Pant’ situated in the small village of Abergavenny in Wales is one my favorite spots to visit when I’m feeling homesick. It’s fresh green fields, lush flowers and amazing clean air makes me feel like I’m back in NZ. O yea and the sheep. They’re everywhere in Wales. I really love this place, so I decided to make a short video that I hope captivates the feelings I get when I visit it. A big thanks to Erline for all her help in making this little video.

Richard Greatrex

I had the opportunity to work alongside Oscar nominated director of photographer Richard Greatrex on a commercial for Tom Harris a special effects wizard whose credits include Star Wars and Doctor Who. It was an incredible three days where I was learning from the  best filmmakers in the world.

Richard’s DOP credits include Shakespeare in Love, A Knight’s Tale and Run Fat Boy Run.

Here are a few snaps I took while working on the commercial:

Apricot

Over the weekend I came across this beautiful film called ‘Apricot’. I thought the cinematography was stunning, the acting outstanding, the music powerful and the whole production amazingly crafted. I believe the best short films are the ones that are based on a simple idea which focuses on a moment and time in a characters life. A short shouldn’t tell the audience everything about the characters, instead it should make the audience guess and wonder what’s going on and what’s going to happen next. ‘Apricot’ does this perfectly and it focuses on something very human, very beautiful and very innocent. A first kiss. Below is the short film. Please let me know what you think?

The Butterfly Circus

The other night I was exploring Vimeo and came across the most incredible short film. Its called ‘The Butterfly Circus’ and it stars a very well known inspirational talker called Nick Vujicic. I was blown away by its beauty and its core theme of “the greater the struggle, the more glorious the triumph”.  I loved all the characters and the way the story unfolded, it gave me goosebumps and made me realize that this is why I want to make movies and why I love films so much. Here is the short, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did:

Nick Vujicic is oustanding, he’s so inspirational. I find his work so impressive and I’m constantly awed by his positive attitude to life, I just love it!
