Just before the new year Katya and I went south to do the Tongariro Crossing – New Zealands most popular walk. I’d attempted to do it twice before but because of weather it was too dangerous and had to cancel, however third time lucky and we did it. Well as far as we could go before we reached the hot steamy, volcanic mountain that had and was due to explode at any minute. It was an incredibly invigorating walk. Climbing to the top was exhausting, it was completely fogged over for the first half of the journey. The biggest challenge was conquering the ‘Devil’s Staircase’ which after doing the walk you’ll know why it got the name, then walk up more mountainous terrain before reaching the top. Once we reached the summit, the fog cleared and the sun came out. We could suddenly see, it was majestic!
