I’m currently working on a short film script that’s set in space. While doing research I came across Commander Chris Hadfield who was the first Canadian to walk in space.
What’s remarkable about Chris is that over the last few months he’s been sharing his journey of living in the space station. He’s created videos that demonstrate what everyday life in space is like – from cleaning your teeth through to cooking a quiche.
It’s extremely fascinating seeing what life in space is like. The universe is impossibly big and it’s exciting to imagine what lays beyond life on earth. I’ve loved watching Chris’s videos and it’s opened my eyes to the amazing wonders of the universe.

Half the art of a good photographer is being in the right place at that right time. There’s so many special moments that happen all around the world on daily bases and to capture them you have to have your camera primed and ready. Now with modern mobile phones such as iPhones and Androids this is possible for anyone who has access to these incredible devices, not just the pros.
The ability to take a photo and share it with the rest of the world within a matter of seconds is mind blowing. This is why I love Instagram, I’m able to share my passion with others and hopefully inspire one or two individuals along the way. I’ve just finished listening to the Steve Jobs autobiography – it was incredible to learn the life story of the man who’s gadgets and technology I use on a daily bases for both work and entertainment. He’s a true visionary who would stop at nothing to bring his vision to life. I’m awed by his focus, his love of simplicity and his ability to create the future rather than wait for it to arrive.

The role of a unit photographer is to take photos of pivotal scenes in the movie that will be used to help promote it. It’s important to capture the essence of the film in a single image so the audience get a taste of what it’s about while not giving away the storyline. In addition to this I took photos of the crew to show what goes on behind the scenes of a movie and also as rememberable for those who helped make the film. The photos will be published online, in magazines, used for posters and DVD artwork. I’ve included a couple of photos from the shoot below:
Devin Graham is a filmmaker who’s video’s I’m always excited to watch. He’s been making professional YouTube videos under the name of ‘Devin Super Tramp’ for over two years now with 160 million views. His passion, dedication and attitude towards filmmaking is inspiring and is an exemplar to anyone who wants to pursue a career in media. His get up and ‘just do it’ attitude shows that with determination, a lot of a hard work and perseverance, dreams can come true. He doesn’t let the fear of failure dictate his life and instead uses it as a tool to empower himself and others.
Devin has a fear of heights and despite this sets out to conquer it. His latest and greatest video is a great example of this:

While traveling around Middle Earth over the summer break with Katya and my dad we decided to explore the seas and kayak to Cathedral Cove. We got up early, made ourselves lunch and headed off to the start line. We strapped our gear to the boat, put on funny looking suits and took off with our very lovely and very international group of fellow kayaks. While on the trip we spotted wildlife dotted everywhere – including penguins popping their little heads out of the water while searching for their 2nd breakfast. When we arrived at our final destination we sat on the soft sanded beach with an impressive aria of hot drinks. This was complemented by chocolate biscuits and our lunch that we nibbled on to sustain us for the journey back. Here are a few photos taken by dad while on the trip:
I’ve been to Waiheke many a time before but I’d never ventured as far east as Stoney Batter. It’s a very interesting part of the island with every angle looking like it could be part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The unique natural rock structures make for a true spectacle and adds another string to New Zealands very large bow of beautiful untouched landscapes. Here are a few photos from the trip:
